Growing up working in his grandpa’s speed shop, Chris Harshey developed an early passion for machining and industrial equipment while learning to operate manual machines and tools. Later, he began working in his father’s shop, which operated more than 20 Mazak CNC machines, where he gained hands-on experience with Mazak controls, CNC programming, machine operation, and production environments.
Chris later joined the United States Air Force and served in Security Forces, where he developed discipline, technical problem-solving skills, and the ability to perform under pressure in high-responsibility environments. During his military service, he completed deployments to Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia. After two deployments, he decided to return to the machine tool industry and pursue the career path he had grown up around.
After returning to the machine tool world, Chris was able to contract directly with Mazak and gain valuable knowledge working alongside seasoned Mazak technicians in the field. Over nearly 10 years of contracting with Mazak, he continued expanding his expertise in CNC diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting, machine installations, 5-axis alignment, and complex machine repair across a wide range of equipment and manufacturing environments.
After nearly a decade of contracting with Mazak, Chris decided to go independent and start Midwest Machine Tool with the goal of providing OEM-level CNC service without OEM-level pricing. Today, Midwest Machine Tool is built on real-world experience, fast response times, and a commitment to helping manufacturers minimize downtime and keep production moving.
